Know that you have a right to ask for help.

Ask for help from an adult that you trust (your case manager, IL specialist, foster parent, friend, Guardian Ad Litem)

Know that you have control over some things, even though it may not feel like it. You control:
• Who you are
• Who you ask to help you
• Using the chain of command
• Speaking your truths

Be clear and honest about:
• What’s happening
• What you need
• How you feel

Brainstorm different solutions and backup plans. People respond betterwhen you have a solution to the problem.

Be straightforward and truthful.

Keep a positive attitude.

Be ready to negotiate and compromise.

Feel like you are bothering people.

Hesitate to ask for help.

Think that you have to go through this alone or without help.

Ever think that it’s too late.

Start without thinking things through or without a desired outcome.

Use sarcasm or degrading language.

Be disrespectful or hateful.

Swear or call people names.

Prejudge others.

Give up.
